Grace To Be Born

A Happy Launch in MOD Day at Grace To Be Born

January 27, 2011

AT 16, Mai—not her real name—was sure she was going to be somebody once she’s done with school. Always the achiever, she was at the Top 5 of her class and was a member of her school’s women’s volleyball varsity team, the debate team, and wrote for the school paper. She had her sights set on which college to go to and what course to take up. Everything seemed to be going according to plan until it happened. She got pregnant by her boyfriend two years her senior. She did not know what to do. She was not ready to take on such a huge responsibility. She was not ready to be somebody’s mommy. Now on her third week of pregnancy, Mai contemplated going through an abortion procedure.

Mai is among hundreds of women caught in such a crisis. They are confused. They don’t have resources to be able to get out of the trap. They have no one to turn to. MOD’s newest advocacy is to reach out to these women. We launched the program last July 31 in MOD Day at Grace To Be Born.

Grace To Be Born is a shelter for women in crisis. The name of the shelter expresses its philosophy: that to be born is a grace. Thus Grace To Be Born provides refuge to unwed pregnant mothers who do not want to resort to abortion. It also serves as an orphanage to abandoned babies.
